Saturday May 27th, 2017, is the first opening of our 31st season. This is a very special show for me because it highlights the beginning of my career in the art field. When I worked for John Wilson, his focus was on prints and drawings. So, in the entryway of the gallery we will exhibit prints by Rembrandt, Renoir, Whistler, some early Japanese woodcuts, a drawing by Arthur B. Davies and more, the kind of things John would have carried in his print cases to universities and museums across the country.
In one room of the school house we will feature the prints of the giants of the 50’s through the 80’s such as Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Rauschenberg, Robert Cottingham, Ilya Bolotowsky, Jim Dine, Leon Polk Smith, Lee Bontecou and more contemporary prints by Leslie Dill, and Christo. On a personal note, the Dill and the Christo were printed by my good friend, Jack Lemon of Landfall Press. We have found beautiful examples of these artist’s work and we are excited to be sharing them with you as we contemplate the past while looking to the future.
And finally, we will show what we consider our own giants of the art world: work by Robert Agne, Catherine Maize, William Zuelhke, Michelle Peterson Albandoz, Louise Pappageorge, David Zimmerman, Mark DeBernardi, William Conger, Brian Schutz and Tricia Rumbolz.
We hope that you will put this on your calendar for Memorial Day Weekend and join us to celebrate another opening season of The Judith Racht Gallery.
